Privacy Policy
Effective: February 2026
Hereish is a location utility that runs entirely on your device. We have no servers, no user accounts, and no way to access your data. This policy explains what the app does with your information, which is very little.
The Short Version
- • No data leaves your device.
- • There are no servers to send data to.
- • There are no user accounts.
- • There are no analytics SDKs or tracking frameworks.
- • Your location is processed on-device and cached locally. That's it.
Location Data
Hereish uses your device's GPS to determine your coordinates, then uses Apple's built-in reverse geocoding service to convert those coordinates into a town or city name. This geocoding happens on-device through Apple's Core Location framework.
The result — your current town name, state or country, and coordinates — is cached locally in an App Group container (UserDefaults) so that widgets, the Apple Watch complication, and the main app can all read it. This cached data never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to any server, including ours. We do not operate any servers.
What "Always" Location Permission Means
Hereish requests "Always" location permission to enable Significant Location Change (SLC) monitoring. This is an iOS system service that wakes the app briefly when your device has moved approximately 500 meters. When triggered, the app checks your new location, updates the cached town name, and goes back to sleep.
This is what keeps your widgets current without you needing to open the app. SLC monitoring is a low-power, coarse-grained service. It does not provide continuous tracking — it fires only on significant movement and provides approximate location data.
If you prefer, you can grant only "While Using App" permission. Widgets will still function but may be less current, as the app cannot update the cache in the background. You can change this at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Hereish.
Apple's App Analytics
Apple collects aggregated, anonymized analytics about app usage and shares summary data with developers through App Store Connect. This is a standard Apple service that applies to all apps on the App Store. The data Apple shares with us contains no personally identifiable information and cannot be used to identify individual users.
You can opt out of sharing analytics with developers in your device's Settings under Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Share with App Developers.
Data We Don't Collect
To be clear about what Hereish does not do:
- • We do not collect personal information of any kind.
- • We do not store or log your location history. Only the single most recent location is cached.
- • We do not collect usage data, session information, or behavioral analytics.
- • We do not collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, or fingerprinting data.
- • We do not use third-party analytics services, crash reporters, or tracking SDKs.
- • We do not sell, share, or transfer data to third parties. There is no data to share.
- • We do not display advertisements.
Changes to This Policy
If we make significant changes to how Hereish handles your data, we will update this page and note the effective date at the top. For material changes, we will also include a notice in the app.
