Lock Screen Widgets
Lock screen widgets let you see your current town without unlocking your phone. They’re small, but that’s the point — a quick glance is all you need.
Adding a Lock Screen Widget
Section titled “Adding a Lock Screen Widget”- Long press on your lock screen.
- Tap “Customize”.
- Select Lock Screen.
- Tap the widget area you want to use:
- Below the clock — the wider widget row
- Above the clock — the single-line inline slot
- Search for “Hereish” in the widget picker.
- Choose the style you want (see below).
- Tap “Done” to save.
Widget Styles
Section titled “Widget Styles”Rectangular
Section titled “Rectangular”Displays the Hereish icon alongside your current town name in a single line. This is the most readable lock screen option and the one that shows the most information.
If the town name is long, the state abbreviation may be omitted to prevent truncation.
Circular
Section titled “Circular”A compact circle that shows the Hereish icon, or an abbreviated version of your town name (5 characters maximum). Best for watch-face-style lock screen layouts where you want location info without much space commitment.
Due to the size constraint, this works best if your town has a short name. Longer names get truncated.
Inline (Above Clock)
Section titled “Inline (Above Clock)”A single line of text displayed above the clock. Shows just the town name using the system font. No icon, no state — just the town.
This is the most minimal option. It replaces the default date display above the clock with your current location.
A Note About Fonts
Section titled “A Note About Fonts”Lock screen widgets use the iOS system font. Hereish’s custom Overpass typeface isn’t available in this context — iOS enforces system fonts on the lock screen for visual consistency. Your home screen widgets will still use the Overpass font.
Refresh Behavior
Section titled “Refresh Behavior”Lock screen widgets follow the same refresh schedule as home screen widgets — Hereish requests updates every 5 minutes, and iOS decides when to honor those requests. See Widget Limitations for the full explanation.
Lock screen widgets do not have a manual refresh button due to their small size. If you need to force an update, open the Hereish app briefly or use the refresh button on a home screen widget — both will update the shared location cache that all widgets read from.
- Rectangular is the best choice for readability. Start there unless you’re short on space.
- Inline is great if you want ambient location awareness without giving up a widget slot below the clock.
- For the most accurate location on your lock screen, grant “Always” location permission. See Download & Permissions.
