Home Screen Widgets
Home screen widgets are the most common way to use Hereish. They show your current town at a glance, without opening the app.
Adding a Widget
Section titled “Adding a Widget”- Long press on an empty area of your home screen until the icons start jiggling.
- Tap the + button in the top-left corner.
- Search for “Hereish” in the widget gallery.
- Swipe through the available sizes to find the one you want.
- Tap “Add Widget”.
- Drag it to your preferred position and tap “Done”.
Widget Sizes
Section titled “Widget Sizes”Small (2x2)
Section titled “Small (2x2)”The compact option. Displays the Hereish icon, your current town name, and state abbreviation. Fits anywhere on your home screen without taking up much space.
The town name scales down to fit the available space. Very long town names may truncate with an ellipsis.
Medium (4x2)
Section titled “Medium (4x2)”The Hereish icon sits on the left, with the town name and state stacked to its right. More breathing room than the small widget, and the town name displays at a larger size.
A good default choice if you have the space.
Large (4x4)
Section titled “Large (4x4)”A centered layout with the icon above and the town name displayed prominently below. Intentionally sparse — the generous whitespace is a feature, not wasted space. It reinforces that this widget does one thing.
Manual Refresh
Section titled “Manual Refresh”Each home screen widget includes a refresh button — the small arrow icon. Tap it to trigger a manual location update. This bypasses the normal 5-minute refresh cycle and fetches a fresh GPS fix directly.
A manual refresh typically takes 1-10 seconds, depending on GPS signal strength and network availability for reverse geocoding.
StandBy Mode
Section titled “StandBy Mode”When your iPhone is charging in landscape orientation, iOS activates StandBy mode. Your home screen widgets appear in StandBy automatically — no extra setup needed.
Hereish widgets in StandBy display at a larger size with high contrast, designed to be readable from across the room. The location continues to refresh on the normal widget schedule.
Tapping a Widget
Section titled “Tapping a Widget”Tapping any Hereish home screen widget opens the main app, where you can see your full address and tap to copy it to the clipboard.
- For the most current location, make sure you’ve granted “Always” location permission and Background App Refresh is enabled. See Download & Permissions for setup details.
- If the widget seems stuck, try the manual refresh button first. If that doesn’t help, check the Widget Limitations page for troubleshooting steps.
- Widgets on your main home screen page get higher refresh priority from iOS than widgets on secondary pages or buried in a stack.
